Bisses |
|
What is a «bisse»?
The «bisse» were built to escape the consequences of the drought. Fed by different sources (rivers, streams or torrents), they are used to water and irrigate different crops along the hillsides. Gently sloped, the paths which run along them offer walkers varied scenery. In the heart of a valley, through gorges or simply along the hillsides, they allow you to discover an extremely picturesque aspect of the Valais region.
A brochure of the «Bisses» of the Valais region (CHF 2.-) is available at the Tourist Information Office. |
